Transporting 60-ton thrusters for an oil rig thousands of kilometres and delivering them at the exact moment they are needed gives a whole new meaning to the term “just-in-time delivery”.

We recently delivered eight 60-ton thrusters from the Rotterdam port to an oil rig in Curaçao. It was a complex, multi-step project that required just-in-time delivery.
Step-by-Step
Our first challenge was to load and secure the thrusters, which required two cranes and careful securing. It was necessary to consider the exceptional weight of the cargo and to account for the weight being focused onto a small portion of the vessels’ deck.
Once secured, our vessel the MV Beautriton completed the first step of the journey, crossing the Atlantic from Rotterdam to Willemstad, Curaçao.
Upon arrival, MV Beautriton was met by a barge that would carry the trusters up the estuary to the oil rig. The heavy cargo was smoothly discharged onto the barge, which headed off up the estuary and delivered the thrusters to the rig right on time.
